There’s nothing that beats that feeling of coming home after a long day to relax in your living room, luxuriating in the comfortable furniture and regaining that sense of calm that comes from being surrounded by your favourite things. But if your living room is looking a little lacklustre, we’ve got 5 gorgeous living room looks to inspire you.

  1. Gold Accents. If you’re looking for a quick update rather than a complete makeover, adding gold accents is very on trend for SS18 says interior designer Sarah Jayne Garman. Sarah suggests inexpensive accessories that you don’t mind sending to the charity shop once you get bored of them, and things like tea lights, vases or bowls are perfect. For living room shelving, try our glass shelving range. Our White/Glass Adjustable Shelving with two shelves is ideal for displaying your golden accessories.
  2. Neutral and jewel tones

One of the best ways to lift your living room look is with colour, and a key living room trend for this season is neutral and jewel tones. Forget the neons of seasons past, instead opt for stone, taupe and warm greys with gorgeous rich aubergines, vibrant violets and deep peacock blues. When picking your colour palette Sarah advises you to think about whether you get natural light in the room and most importantly the colours you like, saying: “I love trends as much as the next interior designer, however I also believe in personal taste, it’s important that you work to what you’re comfortable with and not just follow fashion.”

  1. Velvet and leather

Lounges should be comfortable spaces where you feel you can relax and adding texture is key to this. A key SS18 living room idea is to add in some velvet, but Sarah urges us not to go overboard: “Either pick one large piece such as a sofa or a couple of smaller items such as a chair and some cushions positioned on the sofa to tie the look together.” Leather is also big for this season and is a great, durable material for bigger purchases like sofas.

  1. Functional and beautiful

When we’re pondering living room ideas, it can be easy to be carried away but it’s also key to think about how the space will be used. Sarah advises: “Storage is so important. The room has to function and storage is a key element to consider when planning your living room.” If your living room storage is lacking, try Urbaboxx’s Narrow Chrome Wire Shelving Unit with four shelves. This lounge shelving is sturdy enough to handle heavy items like books, making quick work of living room organisation.

  1. Statement ceilings

The humble ceiling gets very little attention in our lounges other than the odd lick of white paint but for SS18 it’s time to do something a bit different! Sarah says: “An old trick is to mix your wall colour in with some white to produce a more sympathetic colour for your ceiling. If you are feeling bold you can paint the ceiling the same colour as your walls to give a bold continual feel.  You could even go so far as to wallpaper your ceiling.” Statement art is also big for spring and summer- especially if it features a face or body part. And if nothing else, it will be a good conversation starter for when people come over! We’d love to see the results of your living room updates, tag us @urbaboxx
