The garage is the ultimate storage space! It’s the perfect place for tools, garden accessories, sports equipment and, of course, your car. But keeping all these items organised can be a bit of a challenge. So, how can you effectively organise all these different items in the garage?
Tools & Hardware
Many of us will end up accumulating a bunch of tools and need a good place to store them, and it’s usually not very practical to keep them in the main part of the house. The garage is a great spot for this and if you have regular DIY projects on the go, having all your tools in one place is super handy!
If you’ve got a big tool cabinet and workbench, it’s probably taking up a lot of space, even against the wall. It can be tricky trying to figure out how to add extra storage around them. Metal Shelving is a solid choice, but if you want to save precious floor space, consider using wall shelving.
Adjustable Wall Shelving is a great option because you can move it around whenever you need to, which is super useful as your tool and DIY collection inevitably grows!
Gardening
For plant lovers and gardening gurus, you need a place to store your accessories, whether it’s just a few items or a whole garden’s worth of gear.
It’s important to store heavier stuff like compost bags and big plant pots on the floor or lower shelving. And don’t forget smaller accessories like gloves, trowels and seed packets. Keep them safe and sound on grid mesh panels to prevent them from getting lost or damaged. When it comes to shelving, freestanding shelving or wall-mounted options are great either way!
Grid Mesh Shelving in particular is very useful as it can be paired with a variety of accessories such as hooks or baskets – perfectly suited for those smaller accessories. Or why not use a Trolley as an easy way to store and move all your gardening essentials.
Toys & Sports Equipment
If you want to keep footballs, bats, and bicycles, ready for your garden and outdoor adventures, it’s helpful to keep everything sorted, so there’s no confusion about where to find them. Storing these items can be a bit tricky because they might be used more or less often depending on the season.
To make everything easy to find, you can use Clear Plastic Boxes. This way, everyone can see where each item belongs. You could even add labels to make it extra obvious – no more items getting mixed up and tangled together! Plastic boxes are tough and can keep your items safe from the elements too. Place them on shelves or stack them on top of one another and you’re done.
Heavy-Duty Shelving is also perfect for your home gym. Be sure to keep the very heavy weights on the floor and pay attention to recommended loading guidelines, but the shelving is great for keeping all your accessories tidy, such as ropes, mats, and bands.
Cleaning Equipment & Kitchen Extras
If you want to save space in the rest of your house, then it makes sense to store all the larger cleaning equipment in your garage. Whilst items like mops, brooms, and vacuum cleaners aren’t necessarily bulky or heavy, they can be awkward in shape.
As you probably won’t be using these items in your garage, try to place them near the internal door for convenience. And since they’re usually tall, it’s also helpful to keep them upright. You can accomplish this by using a Grid Mesh Panel, which will also allow you to keep them neat and stop them from clattering to the floor!
Some people even decide to store large appliances like a fridge, freezer, or washing machine in the garage, which is a no-brainer if you have the space and facilities to do so. Just like a tool cabinet or workbench, these items are bulky and take up a lot of space, so use Wall Shelving to create storage around these items without taking up extra floor space.
All of the Above
If your garage is packed with stuff, then it’s important to think about how to organise it in a way that makes sense and is functional. Store cleaning supplies near the internal door for easy access. Think about where to place bulkier items where they’re accessible but not in the way. If you cycle regularly, keep your bicycle and gear closer to the main garage door.
You can use one type of shelving/storage or use several to suit different purposes. Our Klassiek Chrome Wire Shelving is great if you want a durable and robust option or if you find you’re short on space and you’re wondering where you can add storage, think vertically! Install wall-mounted storage options, such as adjustable shelving or grid mesh, to free up floor space. Plus, with adjustable shelving, you can easily rearrange things as needed.
The garage can be so much more than just car storage but it can be challenging to figure out where to put everything - whether you have a large or small space. Consider what you need to store and what shelving and storage may be good for those items. Combine that with our top tips, and you’ll have everything you need to tidy up your garage!
