Bank Holiday Blitz
22nd Aug 2018
With the bank holiday nearly here, this is one of your last chances to throw open your windows, pull on the marigolds and give your home a much needed blitz before autumn! No cupboard will be left untidied, no wardrobe will be left unorganised and every room will gleam and shine as you sweep through your house like a one person organisation machine. Even for us though, a whole house refresh in a single weekend (even a long bank holiday one) is a stretch. What we need, is some expert advice!
Top to bottom: Whether you live in a flat or a house, a good place to start your bank holiday blitz is in the bedroom, working your way to the living areas and finally the kitchen. You can’t clean properly until you’ve organised, so gather everything from the bedroom floor onto the bed and then methodically put things back into their rightful place. If you’re lacking in ‘rightful places’ for your stuff, invest in a Chrome Wire Clothes Rack. These wardrobes have wheels so are really easy to move around when you fancy a change, and have space for clothes, shoes and bags too!
Stick to the plan: If you want to avoid wasting time as you ponder what to sort and clean first, you need a plan! Dean Davies is a cleaning supervisor for Fantastic Services and had this advice: “Start cleaning at the top of each room, such as removing cobwebs and dusting the ceiling fan, and work down through the walls to the baseboards and the floor to eliminate superfluous work. This will reduce the chance of dirt and dust falling down on what you have just cleaned. Following the left to right method ensures that you will cover the entire room instead of rushing from place to place. Keeping this strategy helps you cut your cleaning time as you are working once instead of cleaning areas you have just cleaned.”
Tools at the ready: Every job needs the right tools and the bank holiday blitz is no different. Dean suggests getting prepared: “Having all the cleaning supplies you need in a bucket means you can bring them with you during cleaning rather than wasting time walking back and forth to the cabinet under your kitchen sink.” Don’t fancy carrying all that cleaning stuff around? Pop it on the super versatile Chrome Wire Shelf Trolley and feel utterly organised and professional as you go about your cleaning!
Perfect rows: From the bedroom to the lounge and it’s time for some hoovering. Ever seen a lawn mown in perfect green stipes? Turns out we should be hoovering our homes in the same way. Dean advises: “Vacuuming in rows is the fastest and most effective technique you can use when cleaning high-traffic areas in your home. Start by a wall and do the entire length of the room in a straight row to the opposite wall, then move over and start again in the reverse direction.” After some immensely satisfying hoovering, a gorgeous Chrome Wire Shelving Unit could be your organisation haven with four high load capacity shelves to store your knick-knacks tidily.
The list. You’ve made it to the kitchen so get ready to scrub those surfaces and empty out those drawers. Kitchen drawers and cupboards are notorious for being clutter gatherers. A nice storage addition for your kitchen is the 5 ft Freestanding Grid Mesh Corner Shelving. Ideal for utensils, crockery and cookbooks. When you’re done, make a brew and congratulate yourself on a job well done. And now you’ve done the bank holiday blitz once, it’ll be a whole lot easier next time says Dean: “It’s best to clean the house in the same order every time. This makes you more consistent and productive, and less overwhelmed by the task.”
