Creating the perfect shelfie
16th Jan 2019
1) The book shelfie. The original (and arguably) the best, the book shelfie was invented when people decided to turn their love of books into a gorgeous feature in their homes. Instead of organising by genre or author, aesthetics took pole position and books started to be arranged by shape, and (our favourite!) colour! Check out Bonnie Burton’s amazing book shelfie where she’s arranged all of her many, many books by shade and added in some quirky accessories to match. Create your own book shelfie with some hard wearing, high load capacity shelves and stack books into rainbow hues. Keep books vertical, or mix between vertical and horizontal for maximum impact on your shelves.
2) The kid’s shelfie. The shelfie works brilliantly in children’s bedrooms. Go traditional with a single shelf placed up high with their most precious items like Nova and Me and her cute baby keepsakes shelfie, making the shelfie a focal point in the room and echoing its décor. You can also use the shelfie to aid your child’s development with easy to reach shelves arranged with a tantalising selection of items that they just can’t wait to reach for- think books arranged front cover forward, blocks waiting to be stacked and jigsaws ready to be completed. Keep it simple, then just create a whole new shelfie when they (and you) need a change.
3) The kitchen shelfie. One of the most beautiful shelfie opportunities has to be in the kitchen- with all of the amazing kitchen accessories available now, who wouldn’t want to show them off?! Stick with a single material like Berylune with their shelfie of glass, or if you prefer china or metal, they’ll work equally well too. Make it all about the food with clear canisters filled with pasta, rice, lentils and spices or mix and match your way to the perfect kitchen shelfie. Lots of people eschew top cupboards now in favour of shelves and these oak/chrome ones are perfect shelfie fodder.
4) The minimalist shelfie. Who said the #shelfie has to be packed with stuff? This shelfie from @janwinter28 sings minimalism and pared back calm with just a few of her favourite seashells. The idea here is to use your shelf as a source of inspiration rather than clutter it with stuff. This is a look that works brilliantly in the lounge, bedroom or bathroom. Imagine, two sets of minimalist white/glass shelves placed one above the other and topped with a gleaming gilt mirror. Think of this as your canvas, and create your composition. A bright green potted plant sat just there, some reclaimed wooden bookends with three of your favourite books just there and that ornament you (miraculously) managed to bring home in your case from your travels to finish things off. Move bits around, add and remove, until your perfect minimalist shelfie is revealed!
5) The beauty shelfie. There’s something about the clean lines and row upon row of perfectly packaged products in a department store’s beauty counter that makes our hearts race. No wonder then that the beauty shelfie is gaining momentum- who wouldn’t want to recreate that look at home? A beauty shelfie can be created from any kind of storage unit with shelves like our white light duty wire shelving unit. The white powder coated chrome wire is just the thing for displaying your prettiest bottles of perfume and most covetable lotions and potions.
